Roccatederighi and Sassofortino: Villages Perched in Time
A few kilometers from the farmhouse are picturesque villages such as Roccatederighi, known before the year 1000 and perched on its “rocks.” Towers, rooftops, and buildings follow this natural shape stretched across the Maremma. The old village is wonderfully preserved with its arches, stairways, alleys, and gates, crowned by the intact ancient Clock Tower.
Close to Roccatederighi lies the village of Sassofortino, whose Sassoforte Castle belonged, like others in the area, to the Aldobrandeschi Counts. Visitors can explore the remaining walls and towers. The fortress still features an entrance gate adorned with a decorative vegetal motif, all set in a landscape of centuries-old chestnut trees and stunning views over the Maremma and surrounding hills.
